What an evening!!! Friday September 6th 2019 in the main hall at Bispham United Reformed Church saw Bispham CastAways first annual History and Theatre event called “Dramatic Tales From History”. Made up of three very different short plays, there was much laughter, tears and applause from our appreciative audience. The first play was “How The Vote Was Won” by Cicely Hamilton and Christopher St John, a suffrage play from 1909, using comedy to change political views. The second was a fictional play, set in 1937, called “Behind The Nets” by Peter Pitt, about a married man arrested by the police for gross indecency in a public toilet. The final play was “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” (The One Act Version) by Celeste Raspanti, set in the Jewish Ghetto of Terezín in Czechoslovakia run by the Nazi’s in World War Two, interweaving real facts, names, dates, poems, writings and pictures from the children of Terezín with a fictional modern interplay between characters.
